• When here in the Outer Hebrides and looking at a bird, have you ever wondered how rare it is? The status of all species can vary enormously from island to island. How rare is Shoveler on Barra, has Stock Dove been seen on Harris, does Dotterel occur on Benbecula in the autumn, and how common is Blue Tit on North Uist? Well, fret no longer! The Status and Distribution of birds here on the Outer Hebrides has been completely updated and summarised for every species and each of the main islands and outliers. I last visited Rubh' Arnal, North Uist 10 days ago and the large influx of Iceland Gulls to Stornoway has now filtered down here. At least 21 were present (all on a small area of floodwater near the fish dump at one time so the overall number was probably more as good number of gulls elsewhere in the area). Also present were four Glaucous Gulls.

A 2nd winter kumlien's gull and 3rd winter glaucous gull were at Brevig this afternoon. C100 redwings were scattered around Barra and my first woodcock for several weeks was at Creachan.
