• When here in the Outer Hebrides and looking at a bird, have you ever wondered how rare it is? The status of all species can vary enormously from island to island. How rare is Shoveler on Barra, has Stock Dove been seen on Harris, does Dotterel occur on Benbecula in the autumn, and how common is Blue Tit on North Uist? Well, fret no longer! The Status and Distribution of birds here on the Outer Hebrides has been completely updated and summarised for every species and each of the main islands and outliers. Spring 2017 Wader Recoveries

MisterT

Always Birding
Every year the Highland Ringing Group visit our islands in May and taget the waders that are passing through on spring migration. The following recoveries/sightings are of birds encountered during this years (2017) trip. Our thanks to High Insley for providing the information.

The first bird is a Sanderling ringed as a chick in Greenland. Recoveries from Greenland are very scarce for obvious reasons, but with Jeroen Reneerkens now visiting more regularly, there may be more in the future
