• When here in the Outer Hebrides and looking at a bird, have you ever wondered how rare it is? The status of all species can vary enormously from island to island. How rare is Shoveler on Barra, has Stock Dove been seen on Harris, does Dotterel occur on Benbecula in the autumn, and how common is Blue Tit on North Uist? Well, fret no longer! The Status and Distribution of birds here on the Outer Hebrides has been completely updated and summarised for every species and each of the main islands and outliers. The small Canada Goose was with the Barnacle Geese on Borve Point again this morning along with a single Pink-foot. Nearby the 22 Whooper Swans were still on Loch Tangasdale. There were at least 2 Yellow-browed Warblers on the island still, perhaps more but the weather put paid to attempts at finding them! There were about ten Bramblings at Northbay and at least two at Castlebay. The Med Gull was still in the usual spot at Eoligarry.

North Uist today - 4 x Fieldfare and a Wheatear seen from the Locheport Road this afternoon.

Following on from the conversation at the DI Hotel last week, we were also pleased to see a small flock of Sanderling on the beach at stinky Bay late afternoon. 4 Long Tailed Ducks there also.
