• When here in the Outer Hebrides and looking at a bird, have you ever wondered how rare it is? The status of all species can vary enormously from island to island. How rare is Shoveler on Barra, has Stock Dove been seen on Harris, does Dotterel occur on Benbecula in the autumn, and how common is Blue Tit on North Uist? Well, fret no longer! The Status and Distribution of birds here on the Outer Hebrides has been completely updated and summarised for every species and each of the main islands and outliers. On Barra, a little auk was on the sea off Craigston this morning. While I was watching it, an adult Iceland gull did a close fly-past along the beach. Another adult Iceland gull was in the bay at Brevig this afternoon. 2 juvenile icelands and a second winter glaucous gull were at Ardveenish. The pink-footed goose and 2 Greenland white-fronts were still among the greylags at Cleat and 15 snow buntings were still at the airport. There seemed to be more redwings around today.

News from Tristan:-

An obvious 2cy Kumlien's Gull at Goat Island, Stornoway, this afternoon. Also a more debatable 3cy bird with faint Kumlien's-type primary pattern. In total at least 25 Iceland & 4 Glaucous Gulls but possibly more as area swarming with gulls today.

A Little Grebe was at the head of the inner harbour (Bayhead).
