• When here in the Outer Hebrides and looking at a bird, have you ever wondered how rare it is? The status of all species can vary enormously from island to island. How rare is Shoveler on Barra, has Stock Dove been seen on Harris, does Dotterel occur on Benbecula in the autumn, and how common is Blue Tit on North Uist? Well, fret no longer! The Status and Distribution of birds here on the Outer Hebrides has been completely updated and summarised for every species and each of the main islands and outliers. During a brief mid-afternoon visit to Aird an Runair my first Great Skua flew N. An Iceland Gull remains at Loch na Reivil.

From Tony: 'in the fog, drizzle and rain early today, 200 Pink-footed Geese and a Greenland
White-fronted Goose were grounded at Port of Ness before flying off later towards the Butt.
The first Moorhen of the year appeared on Loch Stiapavat while a 1st-winter Glaucous Gull and my first Great Skua of the year flew N past Skigersta. Four weeks to the day since my return to Port of Ness (and daily searching for one), a White-billed Diver was off the harbour wall between 15.50 and 16.50 hours. A record shot is attached. Also this evening 6 Iceland Gulls were on the cliffs prior to roosting.'
