• When here in the Outer Hebrides and looking at a bird, have you ever wondered how rare it is? The status of all species can vary enormously from island to island. How rare is Shoveler on Barra, has Stock Dove been seen on Harris, does Dotterel occur on Benbecula in the autumn, and how common is Blue Tit on North Uist? Well, fret no longer! The Status and Distribution of birds here on the Outer Hebrides has been completely updated and summarised for every species and each of the main islands and outliers. news from Tony Marr
A Turtle Dove was in my garden at Port of Ness briefly this morning with 2 Collared Doves.
A Chiffchaff inside the lighthouse compound at the Butt early this afternoon showed characters of a Siberian Chiffchaff.

The Black Tern at Loch Stiapavat 17-21 May Rare Bird Alert (RBA) have confirmed that this bird, despite the intensity of the black in the original photograph suggesting the American race, from other photos I supplied to them appears to be a European.

Always Birding
Still plenty of waders here on the beach here at Askernish and always exciting to find a colour ringed bird. This is the first Oystercatcher that I have found. I had to wait quite some time before it showed me its left leg. Now trying to find where it was ringed.
