• When here in the Outer Hebrides and looking at a bird, have you ever wondered how rare it is? The status of all species can vary enormously from island to island. How rare is Shoveler on Barra, has Stock Dove been seen on Harris, does Dotterel occur on Benbecula in the autumn, and how common is Blue Tit on North Uist? Well, fret no longer! The Status and Distribution of birds here on the Outer Hebrides has been completely updated and summarised for every species and each of the main islands and outliers. As the range was quiet for once, I had a look this morning. Not a great deal but good to see an influx of Lapwings (208) with 17 Curlews and 2 Golden Plovers.

To complement the eight Black-tailed Godwits at Loch Hallan a party of ten were seen heading S at Carinish at 08.15 hours this morning.

At Langass there were at least eight Siskins including juveniles - a good breeding season on North Uist this year. Also many Wren families are around at the moment.
