• When here in the Outer Hebrides and looking at a bird, have you ever wondered how rare it is? The status of all species can vary enormously from island to island. How rare is Shoveler on Barra, has Stock Dove been seen on Harris, does Dotterel occur on Benbecula in the autumn, and how common is Blue Tit on North Uist? Well, fret no longer! The Status and Distribution of birds here on the Outer Hebrides has been completely updated and summarised for every species and each of the main islands and outliers. Good numbers of small waders at Ardivachar beach:
c1050 dunlins, c350 sanderlings, c350 turnstones, 40 bar-tailed godwits, 46 eiders in the bay, 1 white wagtail on the seaweed. A number of whimbrels seen and heard all day from the headland, moving north.

Always Birding
The only waders on Askernish beach today at high tide were 18 Whimbrel and the Coal Tit is still in the township but is now in a different garden. I also managed to field read the ring on this Pied Wagtail and it turned that I ringed it locally as a nestling in June 2016

The white-billed diver was off Eoligarry jetty again late morning. It seems to be in moult still so should hopefully stay around for another week or two. At least 6 arctic terns were in the same area and the male snow bunting was still by the airport. A male blackcap was singing at Creachan and a female was at Glen.

Not much success with photography today - as I arrived at Langass, North Uist a skein of 47 Pink-footed Geese flew over and I just managed to get the attached shot - _DSC4052.JPG
A Cuckoo was calling in the plantation, four Siskins were on some peanut feeders while a ♂ Blackcap did not show itself fully -

Seen from Langass Woods a bit later a skein of 280 Pink-feet - came from the S and broke up into smaller groups and most appeared to go W.
