• When here in the Outer Hebrides and looking at a bird, have you ever wondered how rare it is? The status of all species can vary enormously from island to island. How rare is Shoveler on Barra, has Stock Dove been seen on Harris, does Dotterel occur on Benbecula in the autumn, and how common is Blue Tit on North Uist? Well, fret no longer! The Status and Distribution of birds here on the Outer Hebrides has been completely updated and summarised for every species and each of the main islands and outliers. A leucistic Common Gull was present at Loch Paible this morning.

With a lower high tide the White-rumped Sandpiper at Baleshare was more difficult to locate today with much coming and going of the waders between the sward and mud/sand. Knot had increased to 34.

Still lots of Meadow Pipits coming through and a number were trapped and ringed at Askernish today, along with Willow Warblers, Pied Wagtail, Redpoll, Sedge Warbler and Reed Bunting. Some new House Sparrows were ringed and colour-ringed :D All birds but two were juveniles.
