• When here in the Outer Hebrides and looking at a bird, have you ever wondered how rare it is? The status of all species can vary enormously from island to island. How rare is Shoveler on Barra, has Stock Dove been seen on Harris, does Dotterel occur on Benbecula in the autumn, and how common is Blue Tit on North Uist? Well, fret no longer! The Status and Distribution of birds here on the Outer Hebrides has been completely updated and summarised for every species and each of the main islands and outliers. There were two Iceland Gulls and a single Glaucous Gull at Aird an Runair this morning and no sign of the American Coot on Loch nam Feithean. Ten Pintail here was a high spring count - nine made a couple of flights before heading off elsewhere leaving a lone ♀ that was on the water all the time.

Tony's Ness sightings just in for last few days: 28th - Glaucous Gull at the Butt of Lewis, a Goldcrest in an Europie garden, a Swallow nearby and a ♂ Shoveler stayed for the day on Loch Stiapavat.

29th - Chiffchaff at Port of Ness and nine Redwings in the lighthouse garden.

30th - 300 Golden Plover on the machair by Ness Football Club.

Also contrary to previous report the Iceland Gulls are still present with up to eight on the cliffs overlooking Port of Ness bay each morning and evening.
