• When here in the Outer Hebrides and looking at a bird, have you ever wondered how rare it is? The status of all species can vary enormously from island to island. How rare is Shoveler on Barra, has Stock Dove been seen on Harris, does Dotterel occur on Benbecula in the autumn, and how common is Blue Tit on North Uist? Well, fret no longer! The Status and Distribution of birds here on the Outer Hebrides has been completely updated and summarised for every species and each of the main islands and outliers. The White-rumped Sandpiper found by Jonathan yesterday gave some good views this morning. Some other species seen included a flock of 27 Knot flying S, 12 Golden Plover arrived on the beach and a Great Skua was offshore.

7 Black-tailed Godwits and 2 Whimbrel were on newly mowed fields here at Askernish along with 200+ Common Gulls (very few juveniles seen). Swallows seemed to be more noticeable today with circa 60 feeding over the same fields and there was a small flock of 17 Linnet.
