Outer Hebrides / Western isles bird sightings for today, 4th August 2018. Updated throughout the day

Grenitote, North Uist
The **Snowy Owl*** was there again today, half a mile to the north of the picnic area (see BrianR's post below)

Loch Stiapavat, Isle of Lewis
The juvenile Spotted Redshank was still present this afternoon.

Stornoway, Isle of Lewis
c20 Storm Petrels. 1 Sooty Shearwater. 5 Manx Shearwaters. several Great Skuas, 1 Arctic Skua and large numbers of Puffins seen from the Stornoway to Ullapool ferry today

The Snowy Owl was not immediately obvious on walking from the picnic area to Traigh lar but luckily was just showing enough of itself near a fence on our return.

Loch Eynort was very quiet this morning apart from flushing a juvenile Water Rail from a small pond in the new plantation.
There were the first signs of Twite beginning to gather on the machair with 40+ at Kildonan and a 30+ mixed flock of Twite/Linnet at Frobost. The Glaucous Gull was also at Kildonan resting on the rocks with a group of gulls which included a Fulmar
