• When here in the Outer Hebrides and looking at a bird, have you ever wondered how rare it is? The status of all species can vary enormously from island to island. How rare is Shoveler on Barra, has Stock Dove been seen on Harris, does Dotterel occur on Benbecula in the autumn, and how common is Blue Tit on North Uist? Well, fret no longer! A marked influx of White Wagtails today including c80 on Vatersay this morning. Whimbrel were widespread on Barra and included a flock of 64 at Borve. Golden Plover have been very prominent over the past couple of weeks, the largest flock I saw today was 50 also at Borve. There were still c70 Long-tailed Ducks off Craigston and 50 or so off West Beach, Vatersay.

There was little moving N during a seawatch at Aird an Runair, North Uist this morning (09.25-10.55 hours). Sightings included four Common Scoter, four single Red-throated Divers, two single Arctic Skuas, same for Great Skuas, 18 Kittiwakes, a Black Guillemot and also 85 Arctic Terns probably moved N (feeding and slowly moving through). Also noted were two lingering Barnacle Geese and two Canada Geese (subspecies unknown) flew over and were later on the water off Hougharry.
