Western Isles / Outer Hebrides bird sightings for today, 7th May 2024. Updated throughout the day

Hirta, St Kilda
A Collared Dove, colour ringed in Askernish, South Uist, on 28-December-2023 was seen on the island today. This is only the third sighting of some 200 birds ringed, the others being on Unst, Shetland, and again on Hirta in 2022

Butt of Lewis
2 Pomarine Skuas, 7 Arctic Skuas and 5 Bonxies flew past the Butt. Also 65 Greenland White-fronted Geese and small groups of Whimbrel were seen departing NW

Tarbert, Isle of Harris
A *Common Crane* was there briefly

Loch nam Feithean, North Uist
A drake Garganey was seen in the NW corner of the loch early afternoon And again seen early evening. 15 Pink-feet were nearby on Balranald reserve

Scotvein, Grimsay
2 Tree Sparrows were visiting a garden there

Boisdale,South Uist
A female Lapland Bunting was seen an the machair track

Loch Smerclete, South Uist
A Wood Sandpiper was seen there today
