• When here in the Outer Hebrides and looking at a bird, have you ever wondered how rare it is? The status of all species can vary enormously from island to island. How rare is Shoveler on Barra, has Stock Dove been seen on Harris, does Dotterel occur on Benbecula in the autumn, and how common is Blue Tit on North Uist? Well, fret no longer! The Status and Distribution of birds here on the Outer Hebrides has been completely updated and summarised for every species and each of the main islands and outliers. The Sabine's Gull at Cleat finally departed at 5.45pm after spending the whole afternoon on the sea about 100m off the beach. It flew off strongly towards the north-east, but a subsequent search of Traigh Mhor/Eoligarry/Scurrival failed to relocate it.

At Aird an Runair, North Uist this morning there were two Red-necked Phalaropes on the loch at the end of the headland. Spent sometime preening. With the number of sightings this year may well have bred somewhere on the Reserve (in 2015 bred here for the first time in 31 years). The Glaucous Gull was in its usual place on the beach.
