• When here in the Outer Hebrides and looking at a bird, have you ever wondered how rare it is? The status of all species can vary enormously from island to island. How rare is Shoveler on Barra, has Stock Dove been seen on Harris, does Dotterel occur on Benbecula in the autumn, and how common is Blue Tit on North Uist? Well, fret no longer! The Status and Distribution of birds here on the Outer Hebrides has been completely updated and summarised for every species and each of the main islands and outliers. Two bird survey courses entitled 'Skills and Techniques for BTO Bird Surveys' are coming to the Outer Hebrides this April.

On Thursday 20th April at the Dark Island Hotel in Benbecula
and
Saturday 22nd April at the Uig Community Centre on Lewis

Both courses will run from 10am to about 4.30pm.

The courses will have a mix of indoor and outdoor sessions, some bird identification and some survey methods, and should be lots of fun!

The cost of the courses are subsidised to a nominal £5 for the day (to help cover refreshment costs).

Note: These courses are open to all - not only BTO members.

If you're interested in attending please contact Anne Cotton at anne.cotton@bto.org to book on, or feel free to contact David Jarrett at the BTO for more information at david.jarrett@bto.org, alternatively ask questions here on the forum.
