Although unable to ring any Storm Petrels in 2022 due to avian flu, those trapped in 2021 are still being found elsewhere. We have just been informed that a Storm Petrel ringed here in Askernish on 25-July-2021 was controlled (caught and released) at Nolsay, Steymoy, Faroe Islands on 03-July-22, a distance of 536km and a duration of 343 days.

Remarkably, this bird was also controlled (caught and released) 27 days after it was ringed (21-August-2021) at the same location.

Amazing birds!!

A colour ringed Oystercatcher found during aWeBs count on The Range, South Uist (2), on 15-March-2023 had been ringed at Dawlish Warren Nature Reserve on the Exe Estuary in Devon (A) on 04-February-2018. During the intervening time, it had been seen on many occasions on the reserve during the winter and on one other occasion at Larne Harbour, Co. Antrim (1) on 17-February-2019. Interesting to note, as can be seen from the map, South Uist was on its direct line of travel.

Hi,

Rather belatedly but 2 Icelandic barnacle geese who have taken to wintering on Uist, having initially wintered further south. Ringed 1 day apart on 2019, in the same flock in April 2023.
