• When here in the Outer Hebrides and looking at a bird, have you ever wondered how rare it is? The status of all species can vary enormously from island to island. How rare is Shoveler on Barra, has Stock Dove been seen on Harris, does Dotterel occur on Benbecula in the autumn, and how common is Blue Tit on North Uist? Well, fret no longer! The Status and Distribution of birds here on the Outer Hebrides has been completely updated and summarised for every species and each of the main islands and outliers. Icelandic Colour-ringed Oystercatchers

MisterT

Always Birding
Two Oystercatchers were seen on South Uist late Decemeber 2018 with the identical Darvic rings [white with black lettering XY] but with a different colour combination on the other leg. Both birds were ringed as pulli as part of the ongoing Iceland Wader Project within two days of each other at the same location. Two birds from the same project were also seen together in late December, this time in North West Spain showing how far these birds will travel.
