Some difficult weather for birding on Barra this morning with heavy sleet and snow driven on by a force ten north-westerly. There had clearly been a small arrival of Golden Plovers with a few small flocks hunkered down on the machair. Whilst attempting a seawatch at Cleat 2 Golden Plovers flew over me and out to sea to the north-west, gaining altitude as they went: incredible really to see these birds that are presumably heading for Iceland, setting off in such harsh conditions. Other than that, a Glaucous Gull (probably a sub adult) flying north past Brevig this afternoon, was the only other thing of note.
