• When here in the Outer Hebrides and looking at a bird, have you ever wondered how rare it is? The status of all species can vary enormously from island to island. How rare is Shoveler on Barra, has Stock Dove been seen on Harris, does Dotterel occur on Benbecula in the autumn, and how common is Blue Tit on North Uist? Well, fret no longer! The Status and Distribution of birds here on the Outer Hebrides has been completely updated and summarised for every species and each of the main islands and outliers. The juvenile Kumlien's Gull was at Craigston this afternoon after a few days absence. Nearby the 1w drake Surf Scoter was still off Allasdale, but about a mile offshore. 71 Pale-bellied Brent Geese were at Traigh Mhor and the 2 drake Green-winged Teals were at Ardmhor.

As well as the Lesser Scaup, a drake Pintail was also on Loch Bee. Circa 40 Black-tailed Godwits and a Slavonian Grebe were in the SW corner of Loch Bee and 15 Snow Buntings were at Stoneybridge, and 17 were seen later at Aird-mhicheil, possibly the same "snowflakes"
