Outer Hebrides / Western Isles bird sightings for today, 14th November 2018. Updated throughout the day

Ollag, South Uist
There has been an unconfirmed report of a ***Snowy Owl*** being seen opposite the Lochcarnan turn off on the A865 today

South Glendale, South Uist
4 Blackcaps are still to be found in a garden there

Ruhba Ardvule, South Uist
Counting period: 07:55 - 10:15
Weather: Wind SSE F 3-4, 8/8 cloud, very dull with drizzle and murky out to sea. Temp 11C.

A 2+ hour seawatch this morning produced 22 Eider (19S 3N), 12 Long-tailed Duck (S), 23 Red-throated Divers (22S 1N), 5 Great Northern Divers (S), 11 Gannets (10S 1N), 20 Shag (N), 1 Cormorant (N), 3 Purple Sandpipers (N), 2 Kittiwakes (S), 1 Guillemot (S), 1 Black Guillemot (S) and 3 auk sp (S).
Also present in the area were Greylag Goose 24, Wigeon 4, Tufted Duck 5, Goldeneye 2, Red-breasted Merganser 4, Red-throated Diver 1, Great Northern Diver 2, Cormorant 12, Curlew 25, Snipe 6, Hooded Crow 1, Skylark 2, Rock Pipit 1 and Twite 3

North Uist: a herd of 14 Whooper Swans at Loch Sandary included the high number of eight juveniles.

On Barra my first juv Iceland Gull of the season was at Traigh Mhor this morning and a Jackdaw was new in at Tangasdale. The 3 Todd's type Canadas and the smaller Canada Goose were still at Borve though rather distant today in poor weather.

News from Andrew, South Uist

12/11 – fieldfare and 2 brambling in the garden
13/11-14/11 – 2 blackcap (1 male), 3 brambling, also 33 greenfinch which is a high count for here these days
