Outer Hebrides / Western Isles bird sightings for today, 15th June 2018. Updated throughout the day

Vatersay
An adult Rose-coloured Starling was on the machair to the south of the community hall

Ruhba Ardvule, South Uist
Counting period: 05:45 - 10:10
Weather: Wind varying through WSW-SW-W F4, cloudy at first but soon sunny periods with occasional light showers.

A 4+ hour seawatch this morning produced 1 Red-breasted Merganser (S), 2 Red-throated Divers (S), 5 Great Northern Divers (4S 1N), 1 Storm Petrel (S), 14 Fulmars (9S 5N), 78 Manx Shearwaters (16S 62N), 168 Gannets (112S 56N), 47 Kittiwakes (39S 8N), 2 Great Skuas (1S 1N), 1 Arctic Skua (N), 19 Guillemots (18S 1N), 9 Razorbills (S), 2 Puffins (N) and 70 auk sp (23S 47N).
Also present in the area were Great Northern Diver 2, Whimbrel 7, Great Black-backed Gull 5, Glaucous Gull [2CY - new arrival] 1, Lesser Black-backed Gull 3, Arctic Tern 20, Sand Martin 2 and Pied Wagtail 2

At Aird an Runair, North Uist this morning there were two broods of Shelduck, a ♂ Ruff (black/orange), the Glaucous Gull was still present and around 40 Manx Shearwaters were offshore during a brief watch. Also there were a few more 2CY Arctic Terns present.

Shortly after returning from a walk around Loch Hallan where the 2CY Iceland Gull was on the beach, I had a message from Martyn Jamieson telling me that he and Robin Sutton had just seen a male Marsh Harrier north of the loch. Bill and I saw it briefly at distance from his driveway but we could not relocate it, even after a search this evening
