• When here in the Outer Hebrides and looking at a bird, have you ever wondered how rare it is? The status of all species can vary enormously from island to island. How rare is Shoveler on Barra, has Stock Dove been seen on Harris, does Dotterel occur on Benbecula in the autumn, and how common is Blue Tit on North Uist? Well, fret no longer! The Status and Distribution of birds here on the Outer Hebrides has been completely updated and summarised for every species and each of the main islands and outliers. The 3 Todd's Canada Geese were still on Barra today, on the fields at Cleat in the morning then at Allasdale in the afternoon. The smaller Canada Goose was still on Borve Point with the Barnacle flock. A Little Egret flew south over Northbay at 9.30 this morning and a Jackdaw also flew south over Eoligarry and Traigh Mhor in the late afternoon. 40 Brent Geese were at Traigh Mhor along with 6 Shelducks (the first I've seen since the summer).
