• When here in the Outer Hebrides and looking at a bird, have you ever wondered how rare it is? The status of all species can vary enormously from island to island. How rare is Shoveler on Barra, has Stock Dove been seen on Harris, does Dotterel occur on Benbecula in the autumn, and how common is Blue Tit on North Uist? Well, fret no longer! The Status and Distribution of birds here on the Outer Hebrides has been completely updated and summarised for every species and each of the main islands and outliers. North Uist: not a particularly productive seawatch for an hour or so at Aird an Runair this morning - wind direction (SSW) not that good for this site. Manx Shearwaters were trickling through but at some distance (108 in half an hour), a flock of ca.50 Redshank flew SW followed by a couple of Whimbrel and that was about it.

A moulting ♂ Ruff was at Loch Sandary.

Here at Askernish, Black-tailed Godwit numbers had reduced to 42 this morning. Elsewhere there were 18 Black-tailed Godwits at Kildonan and 75 Golden Plover on Bornish machair. 4 Knot were amongst the 200+ Dunlin at Ardvule at high tide and 3 Whimbrel were on the beach at Peninerine.
