Outer Hebrides / Western Isles bird sightings for today, 20th July 2018. Updated throughout the day

Ruhba Ardvule, South Uist
Counting period: 06:35 - 09:50
Weather: Wind WSW veering NW F2-3, 8/8 cloud, dull with frequent misty periods and light drizzle. Temp 14.3C.

A 3+ hour seawatch this morning produced 13 Fulmars (4S 9N), 101 Manx Shearwaters (96S 5N), 161 Gannets (143S 18N), 2 Cormorants (N), 1 Kittiwake (S), 7 Razorbills(S) and 5 auk sp (3S 2N).
Also present in the area were Shoveler 2, Mallard 40, Teal 4, Eider 33, Lapwing 110, Golden Plover 7, Ringed Plover 1, Curlew 2, Bar-tailed Godwit 1, Knot 1, Dunlin 9, Snipe 8, Redshank 6, Greenshank 1, Arctic Tern 54, Peregrine 1, Raven 21, Skylark 1, Sand Martin 11 and Pied Wagtail 16

The Glaucous Gull was still on the Askernish golf course but preferring the 18th fairway this morning

Species at Aird an Runair, North Uist in the late morning included 435 Dunlin, the resident Glaucous Gull, at least one juvenile Little Tern while a small number of Arctic Terns were offshore having now vacated the colony.

_DSC5623.JPG At nearby Lach na Reivil there was an unseasonable Greenland White-fronted Goose.

Also there was another sighting of the Snowy Owl yesterday - seen by Donald Cameron at Grenitote. Last seen on the 15th on the Sollas machair.
