• When here in the Outer Hebrides and looking at a bird, have you ever wondered how rare it is? The status of all species can vary enormously from island to island. How rare is Shoveler on Barra, has Stock Dove been seen on Harris, does Dotterel occur on Benbecula in the autumn, and how common is Blue Tit on North Uist? Well, fret no longer! The Status and Distribution of birds here on the Outer Hebrides has been completely updated and summarised for every species and each of the main islands and outliers. I managed to get a couple of record shots of the juvenile American Golden Plover at Eachkamish (Baleshare) before my camera became inoperative. The bird was on its own and not consorting with any of the Golden Plovers in the area. A bit later two Buff-breasted Sandpipers flew in to the same area where two were present on the 17th.

Strange! I didn't see any Leach's at all on the 11.50 LMY-UIG - just Storm Petrels!

Hi there, yes, we can only report what people tell us at the time. Since this report several people have remarked about the validity of the identification.
