Outer Hebrides / Western Isles bird sightings for today, 23rd August 2018. Updated throughout the day

Baleshare, North Uist
A female Pintail was sen there this evening

Ruhba Ardvule, South Uist
Counting period: 06:10 - 08:45
Weather: Wind WSW F4-5, 8/8 cloud at first, becoming sunny.Temp 12.2C.

A 2+ hour seawatch this morning produced 3 Red-throated Divers (2S 1N), 4 Storm Petrels (S), 10 Fulmars (6S 4N), 1 Sooty Shearwater (S), 146 Manx Shearwaters (144S 2N), 25 Shag (N), 1 Cormorant (S), 9 Whimbrel (S), 3 Turnstone (S), 1 Purple Sandpiper (S), 5 Kittwakes (S), 2 Arctic Terns (S) and 2 Black Guillemots (S).
Also present in the area were Greylag Goose 140, Cormorant 8, Common Buzzard 1, Curlew 17, Bar-tailed Godwit 1, Raven 6, Pied Wagtail 2, Twite 12 and Linnet 1

Some movement SW in a 2 hour seawatch at Aird an Runair, North Uist this morning (09.45-11.45 hours in mainly sunny weather with W wind F3-4): three Sooty Shearwaters, 290 Manx Shearwaters, 21 Fulmars, three Turnstone and five Kittiwakes. A flock of 14 Black-tailed Godwits were in a field between Aird an Runair and RSPB visitor centre.

It's been hard graft on the patch here at Askenish this year with my lowest species count ever [102] for this time of year. The only new arrivals today were 3 Black-tailed Godwits on the machair and 40+ Turnstones on the beach. Two juvenile Sanderling were amongst a small flock at Frobost

Seawatching off the west side of Vatersay from 9-11.30am produced 3 Pomarine, 1 Arctic and 5 Great Skuas, 4 Sooty and c800 Manx Shearwaters, 1 Storm Petrel, I Arctic Tern and 32 Whimbrel going south.
A flock of 16 Common Terns (mostly juvs) were at Traigh Mhor this evening; by Barra standards a high count.
