There was another Rose-coloured Starling present at Callernish, North Uist during a visit this morning. Also there were at least two Cuckoos and a Redwing is still around.

Rather a distant view of the Rosy Starling.

More signs today that birds are returning with 2 Black-tailed Godwits on the Howmore River and another 33 at Kilaulay along with a summering Whooper Swan. Around Loch Bee there were broods of Teal, Shoveler and Red-breasted Mergansers. Shoveler and R-b Mergs are both on the Rare Breeding Birds Panel list, the latter only included recently and therefore increasing the importance of such records.

On Barra the Rose-coloured Starling was still on the machair at Borve, though distant. C20 Puffins and 4 Arctic Skuas were off Leanish this afternoon. The Cuckoos seem to be having a final burst of activity; at least 3 males and a female around Brevig this evening.

The North Uist Rose-coloured Starling was back in the garden of Callernish House at 21.15 hours (Keith Dawson).
