Birds on the move today with juvenile willow warblers, redpoll, goldfinch, sedge warbler, pied wagtail, meadow pipits and wren ringed in the garden today. There were some 20+ linnet in the township and a gathering of 40+ swallows late afternoon.

There would also appear to be a large influx of painted lady butterflies. I stopped to count them on Askernish machair but having reached 40 in very short time, I gave up. They were everywhere!

At least 25 Painted Ladies in the garden at Carnan today. Most looked extremely fresh so guess they’ve hatched locally not like one I seen before this year that were extremely worn and faded.
