• When here in the Outer Hebrides and looking at a bird, have you ever wondered how rare it is? The status of all species can vary enormously from island to island. How rare is Shoveler on Barra, has Stock Dove been seen on Harris, does Dotterel occur on Benbecula in the autumn, and how common is Blue Tit on North Uist? Well, fret no longer! The Status and Distribution of birds here on the Outer Hebrides has been completely updated and summarised for every species and each of the main islands and outliers. Always Birding
The Waxwing was joined by a male Blackcap today here at Askernish and so had to share the apples. A Goldcrest caught yesterday had previously been ringed by Mark Oksien on 13th October 2019 at Creachan, Barra

Whooper Swans still seem to be on the move. There were a few new birds dotted around Barra today and a flock of 14 flew high south over Vatersay this afternoon. The Ring-necked Duck and 15 Whoopers were on Loch Tangasdale still, 2 Common Redpolls were at Northbay and the 2 Velvet Scoters were off Caolas.
