Outer Hebrides / Western Isles bird sighting for today, 3rd May 2018

Loch Branahuie, Isle of Lewis
A Glaucous Gull, 3 Black-tailed Godwits and 11 Long-tailed Duck were seen there early afternoon.

Torlum, Benbecula
3 Barnacle Geese were on the machair today

Aird an Runair, North Uist
80+ Pomerine, 2 Long-tailed, 2 Arctic and 7 Great Skuas had passed offshore by mid morning (see BrianR's post below)
An Iceland Gull was seen in a ploughed field on the reserve in the afternoon

Ardivachar, South Uist
Two 2CY Glaucous Gulls were seen there this morning

Ruhba Ardvule, South Uist
Counting period: 06:55 - 10:00
Weather: Wind SW F4, 8/8 cloud, dull and murky out to sea, light drizzle at times. Temp 8.7 - 9.6C.

A three hour seawatch this morning produced 2 Tufted Duck (S), 1 Red-throated Diver (S), 4 Fulmars (2S 2N), 81 Gannets (64S 17N), 10 Shag (N), 2 Cormorants (N), 6 Whimbrel (N), 5 Dunlin (N - flew high out to sea), 37 Kittiwakes (2S 35N), 1 Lesser Black-backed Gull (N), 5 Great Skuas (N), 1 Guillemot (S), 14 Razorbills (6S 8N), 1 Black Guillemot (S), 1 Puffin (S) and 17 auk sp (2S 15N)
Also present in the area were Greylag Goose 3, Barnacle Goose 1, Shelduck 21, Wigeon 4, Tufted Duck 7, Eider 20, Red-throated Diver 2, Great Northern Diver 4, Shag 2, Cormorant 23, Golden Plover 2, Whimbrel 4, Lesser Black-backed Gull 3, Arctic Tern 5, White Wagtail 6 and Meadow Pipit 2

With Jackie and Dave the skua total at Aird an Runair (08.30-12.55 hours) was 139 Pomarine, 2 Long-tailed, 4 Arctic and 11 Great.

At nearby Loch na Reivil there were 29 Black-tailed Godwits with another 13 near Loch nam Feithean.

Always Birding
On Askernish machair there were 18 Whimbrel while 74 Black-tailed Godwits were around Loch Hallan. 3 Woodpigeon were still in the township
