• When here in the Outer Hebrides and looking at a bird, have you ever wondered how rare it is? The status of all species can vary enormously from island to island. How rare is Shoveler on Barra, has Stock Dove been seen on Harris, does Dotterel occur on Benbecula in the autumn, and how common is Blue Tit on North Uist? Well, fret no longer! The Status and Distribution of birds here on the Outer Hebrides has been completely updated and summarised for every species and each of the main islands and outliers. On Barra there was a Pied Flycatcher at Creachan today. Nearby the Tree Sparrow was still at Brevig and the 2cy Iceland Gull was still around Craigston.

News from Tristan, Isle of Lewis

An American Golden Plover was at Loch Ordais this morning - seen briefly on two occasions but, frustratingly, disappeared before I got any photos.

Also a Red-necked Phalarope (in the bay), a Grey Plover (about as rare up here as an AGP), 4 Whimbrel and 2 Goldeneye. Approx 210 Dunlin and 115 Sanderling in total between Bragar and Arnol, and a Pinkfoot in with Greylags at Loch Arnol.
