• When here in the Outer Hebrides and looking at a bird, have you ever wondered how rare it is? The status of all species can vary enormously from island to island. How rare is Shoveler on Barra, has Stock Dove been seen on Harris, does Dotterel occur on Benbecula in the autumn, and how common is Blue Tit on North Uist? Well, fret no longer! The Status and Distribution of birds here on the Outer Hebrides has been completely updated and summarised for every species and each of the main islands and outliers. Hawkeye

Eyes and Ears Everywhere
Hi there,
What I have been told is that it is on the beach that is at the very end of Aird an Runair, where the cars normally park up.

A couple of photos attached of this bird. As can be seen its in summer plumage and quite different from Little Stint being much duller and darker with no obvious rufous. It was difficult to get a clear shot of its half-webbed toes a characteristic it shares only with Western Sandpiper.

This is our second July record following one found by the same observer and at the same place on the 20th in 2008.

As Hawkeye mentions it is indeed on the beach down from where the track ends (and where the Western Sandpiper was last year).
