There was a good movement of Barnacle Geese today through North Uist with a minumum of 4,000 recorded. Around half were on the ground at Balranald NR. At Aird an Runair in a half an hour seawatch some 315 (four skeins) came in from well out before turning to N (apart from 20 that came over headland). Otherwise during the seawatch two Red-throated Divers, ten Kittiwakes and a Black Guillemot flew N. At least four Wheatears were present and a couple of White Wagtails.

Several skeins of barnacle geese, perhaps 600 moving Nth at Rubha Aird na Machrach this morning, with at least two groups of greenland whitefronts, of which 27 landed at the north end of the machair. 50 or so purple sands, with 150 turnstone at the point, and 300 or so sanderling along the strand at Aird a Machair, and smaller numbers of dunlin, ringed plover,5 Black tailed godwits, and a few more purple sands. A pod of 8 or so presumed bottlenose dolphins north as well. 3 GN Diver, and 8 Long tailed ducks offshore.
This evening 2 white wagtails, 300 golden plover, 49 wigeon, 12 teal and 3 black tailed godwits on the south side of the range west of Gerinish.

Also present in the area: Greylag Goose 2, Pink-footed Goose 1, Wigeon 17, Pintail 4, Teal 3, Tufted Duck 8, Eider 24, Long-tailed Duck 29, Red-breasted Merganser 6, Red-throated Diver 4, Great Northern Diver 10, Shag 6, Cormorant 24, White-tailed Eagle 2, Common Buzzard 2, Purple Sandpiper 8, Redshank 18, Black-headed Gull 55, Glaucous Gull 1, Merlin 1, Hooded Crow 1, Raven 2, Skylark 1, Wheatear 2, White Wagtail 1, Pied Wagtail 1, Meadow Pipit 8, Twite 4

Nearby on Bornish Machair a Pink-footed Goose was present.
