• When here in the Outer Hebrides and looking at a bird, have you ever wondered how rare it is? The status of all species can vary enormously from island to island. How rare is Shoveler on Barra, has Stock Dove been seen on Harris, does Dotterel occur on Benbecula in the autumn, and how common is Blue Tit on North Uist? Well, fret no longer! The Status and Distribution of birds here on the Outer Hebrides has been completely updated and summarised for every species and each of the main islands and outliers. A quick dash to Barra on the first ferry this morning with Andrew and Brian was well worth the effort. The American Redstart was still showing well at Eoligarry mid morning when we left for the return ferry. Many thanks to Bruce and Kathy for being such good company and excellent guides.

Three Pectoral Sandpipers were present again this evening near Traigh Eachkamish, North Uist (same as on 1st with one bird being slightly larger). Also a flock of 75 Black-tailed Godwits came in to a bit of exposed mud that they soon had to vacate as the tide rose.
_DSC9785.JPG The third bird was just out of shot.
