Western Isles / Outer Hebrides bird sightings for today, 9th March 2019. Updated throughout the day

Ruhba Ardvule, South Uist
Counting period: 07:15 - 09:25
Weather: Wind WNW F5 gust F7, mix of showers and sunny spells. Temp 4 - 4.5C.

A 2+ hour seawatch this morning produced 9 Eider (S), 7 Long-tailed Duck (S), 1 Red-throated Diver (S), 21 Gannets (7S 14N), 26 Shag (S), 1 Cormorant (N), 14 Kittiwakes (7S 7N) and 4 auk sp (2S 2N).
Also present in the area were Wigeon 60, Teal 6, Tufted Duck 2, Red-breasted Merganser 1, Great Northern Diver 1, Cormorant 13, Golden Plover 1, Bar-tailed Godwit 23, Sanderling 31, Purple Sandpiper 19 and Black-headed Gull 1

A 2 hour seawatch (09.25-11.25 hours) at Aird an Runair, North Uist. Brief sunny intervals and fairly frequent hail/sleet showers. WNW wind F5 with gusts F6/7. The following were recorded flying N: 7 Long-tailed Ducks, a Red-throated Diver, 5 Fulmars, 75 Gannets, 719 Kittiwakes (14 2CY), 220 Razorbills and a single Guillemot. Also in the area were at least 40 Purple Sandpipers, 23 Black-headed Gulls and an Iceland Gull.
