• When here in the Outer Hebrides and looking at a bird, have you ever wondered how rare it is? The status of all species can vary enormously from island to island. How rare is Shoveler on Barra, has Stock Dove been seen on Harris, does Dotterel occur on Benbecula in the autumn, and how common is Blue Tit on North Uist? Well, fret no longer! The Status and Distribution of birds here on the Outer Hebrides has been completely updated and summarised for every species and each of the main islands and outliers. At Balranald NR this morning there were at least 700 Barnacle Geese (some N but most on E side of Aird an Rùnair), two Greenland White-fronts flew N, 15 Whooper Swans came over the headland (went out of sight heading W) and a couple of Lapland Buntings flew over calling near the RSPB visitor centre. Also over the headland were a couple of Great Skuas (probably 'local' birds and not heading further N).

At Hougharry/Loch na Reivil there were 13 Black-tailed Godwits while the Iceland and Glaucous Gulls were still present .
