Western Isles / Outer Hebrides bird sightings for today, 22nd October 2023. Updated throughout the day

Butt of Lewis
A Snow Bunting was there early afternoon. In nearby Port Nis, there were 5 Goldcrest, Blue Tit, Chiffchaff, and 4 Common Redpoll in Gardens there and a Waxwing flew SW plus still large numbers of thrushes in the area. Single Sooty and Manx Shearwaters, Arctic Skua, juvenile Arctic Tern, 2 Grey Phalarope and a Great Skua were seen

Loch an Tiumpan, Isle of Lewis
The drake *Ring-necked Duck* was seen on the loch today

Stornoway, Isle of Lewis
16 waxwings were by the UHI campus today. A Great Spotted Woodpecker was also in the area

Marvig, Isle of Lewis
5 Waxwings were there early afternoon. A large numbers of Fieldfare and Redwing were also in the area

Meavaig, Isle of Harris
A Snow Bunting, Woodcock and Brambling were there this morning

Carinish, North Uist
2 Brambling and 6 Long-tailed Tits were seen there today. A waxwing flew south later in the day

Ardivachar, South Uist
2 Swallows and 5 juvenile Brent Geese were on the machair there

Howmore, south Uist
A Blackcap, Brambling and Willow Warbler were in a garden theree

North Locheynort, South Uist
9 Waxwings and a Yellow-browed Warbler were seen there early afternoon. Also present were 6+ Brambling, circa 8 Common Redpolls, a Blackcap and Willow Warbler

Milton, South Uist
A Yellow Wagtail was on the beach there late morning

South Glendale, South Uist
2 Blackcaps and a Woodcock were today

Rubha Ardvule, South Uist
Counting period: 08:30-11:05
Weather: Wind W f4 gust f6. Mix of high cloud and prolonged sunny periods. Temp 9c.

A 2+ hour seawatch this morning produced 10 Kittiwakes (7S 3N), 1 Razorbill (N), 2 auk sp (S), 2 Red-throated Divers (s), 7 Great Northern Divers (2S 5N), 76 Gannets (53S 23N), and 28 Shag (6S 22N).
Also present in the area were Greylag Goose 64, Eurasian Wigeon 22, Mallard 85, Eurasian Teal 3, Tufted Duck 17, Red-breasted Merganser 1, Rock Dove 138, European Golden-Plover 13, Ringed Plover 45, Curlew 11, Bar-tailed Godwit 5, Ruddy Turnstone 22, Sanderling 55, Dunlin 35, Snipe 4, Black-headed Gull 1, Cormorant 13, Grey Heron 1, White-tailed Eagle 1, Merlin 1, Hooded Crow 5, Common Raven 1, Eurasian Skylark 4, Redwing 8, Blackbird 1, Rock Pipit 2, Twite 36, and Goldfinch 1. 26 Black-tailed Godwits were nearby on Bornish machair

The Wood Warbler was still at Cuithir along with 2 Blackcaps. A Hawfinch was at Castlebay this morning. 3 Waxwings were at Cuithir and singles were seen at Ardveenish and Ardmhor. The Kingfisher was heard calling from Ardveenish. The exceptional autumn for Treecreepers continues here with 4 birds today comprising singles at Creachan, Northbay, Ardveenish and Ardmhor.
