• When here in the Outer Hebrides and looking at a bird, have you ever wondered how rare it is? The status of all species can vary enormously from island to island. How rare is Shoveler on Barra, has Stock Dove been seen on Harris, does Dotterel occur on Benbecula in the autumn, and how common is Blue Tit on North Uist? Well, fret no longer! The Status and Distribution of birds here on the Outer Hebrides has been completely updated and summarised for every species and each of the main islands and outliers. In addition to the Little Gull there was also 520 Golden Plover at Traigh Mhor, a high count by Barra standards. Nearby the drake Green-winged Teal remained at Ardmhor. The 2w Glaucous Gull was at Brevig again as was the adult near Vatersay township.

Two Glaucous Gulls at Ardivachar this morning, 2 Pink-footed Geese in a field at Liniclate this afternoon and 24 Knot on the South Ford.

Added another eight species to the year list today (Shelduck, Gannet, Eider, Song Thrush, Gadwall, Coot, Pink-footed Goose and Knot), up to 77 now so feeling pretty happy with that. Looks like a decent day again tomorrow before the weather goes downhill for several days so will be making the most of that!
