• When here in the Outer Hebrides and looking at a bird, have you ever wondered how rare it is? The status of all species can vary enormously from island to island. How rare is Shoveler on Barra, has Stock Dove been seen on Harris, does Dotterel occur on Benbecula in the autumn, and how common is Blue Tit on North Uist? Well, fret no longer! The Status and Distribution of birds here on the Outer Hebrides has been completely updated and summarised for every species and each of the main islands and outliers. OH Bird Recorder
A murky day for the monthly WeBS counts today.

Loch Bee - A good number of species recorded with 42 species in this count area. Most numerous species being Mute Swan (c320), Greylag Geese (c230) and Dunlin (c150). Only one Golden Plover, one Whooper Swan and one Little Tern. Had a great view of a Grey heron with an eel that it had caught and was doing battle with, trying to swallow it, sadly it went out of sight before I could get a photo. The female Scaup was still to the east of the causeway.

South Ford - Surveyed on a falling tide and seemed very quiet apart from c180 Dunlin. That being said we did record 27 species though apart from the Dunlin there were no species with a count of more than 16. Few waders to be seen but there were 13 Knot almost in summer plumage out on the flats.
