• When here in the Outer Hebrides and looking at a bird, have you ever wondered how rare it is? The status of all species can vary enormously from island to island. How rare is Shoveler on Barra, has Stock Dove been seen on Harris, does Dotterel occur on Benbecula in the autumn, and how common is Blue Tit on North Uist? Well, fret no longer! The Status and Distribution of birds here on the Outer Hebrides has been completely updated and summarised for every species and each of the main islands and outliers. The Velvet Scoter was still on Loch Ardvule late afternoon and really standing out in the bright sunlight. The 6 Black-tailed Godwits were also still around the loch with another 8 in the North Bay. 11 Barnacle Geese were by West Loch Ollay, the first I've seen there this winter.

A Snow Bunting flew north over Traigh Eais this morning; they've been few and far between this winter. Also a dead Little Auk on the strand there today and another casualty on Vatersay west beach yesterday. c10 Fieldfares were around Allasdale this afternoon.
