Outer Hebrides / Western Isles bird sightings for today, 5th August 2018

Cnoc a' Charnain, nr Carishader, Isle of Lewis
A Rose-coloured Starling was seen there today

Ruhba Ardvule, South Uist
Counting period: 06:50 - 09:50
Weather: Wind SSW F4, 8/8 cloud, occasional misty spells and light drizzle off sea. Temp 13.7C.

A 3 hour seawatch this morning produced 1 Storm Petrel (S), 8 Fulmars (S), 1 Sooty Shearwater (S), 88 Manx Shearwaters (86S 2N), 110 Gannets (97S 13N), 1 Shag (N), 128 Ringed Plover (N), 3 Turnstone (S), 69 Sanderling (N), 90 Dunlin (N), 1 Snipe (N), 3 Kittiwakes (S), 1 Sand Martin (N), 2 Pied Wagtails (N) and 6 Meadow Pipits (N).
Also present in the area were Shoveler 2, Red-breasted Merganser 1 and Great Northern Diver 2

There was a 2nd winter Ring-billed Gull at Traigh Bhialais, Vatersay this afternoon, hanging out with Common and Herring Gulls.

Black-tailed Godwits on the move today with c30 flying south over Askernish and another 40+ on the machair at Frobost. Also 2 groups of Snipe (36 in total) flying south this afternoon
